Green Revolution in the European Parliament
The 'Nature Calls Nature' Call to Action Begins
It's called 'NatureCallsNature,' the idea of MEP Marco Zullo, who, enlisting the expertise of GREENARCO, a spin-off from the University of Bologna, aims to bring a concept of nature into the European Parliament to operationalize the quality of regulations. The project, open to all, will be presented to European institutions in the autumn. Today, the call to action begins, aimed at those working within the structure, without distinctions of party or position. MEP Marco Zullo states:
As a starting point for realizing the Green New Deal, the idea is to create a working and living environment immersed in a context that symbolizes Nature reclaiming its spaces while remaining in harmony with humanity. It goes without saying that the European Parliament is the first place to start, not only for its symbolic value in an evolving Europe seeking its political identity but also for its operational role: it is the place responsible for drafting laws that, to be truly effective and in defense of Nature, must be written by individuals who have a genuine connection with Nature.
The first rendition of the initial idea, involving the third floor of the European Parliament, chosen as the central point of the entire building, was technically and scientifically curated by GREENARCO, which provides consulting services to organizations, private individuals, and businesses for the development of projects that promote the benefits offered by nature through green infrastructure, sustainable investments, and the protection of biodiversity. As explained by Dr. Sara Landi and Professor Arch. Valerio Morabito of GREENARCO:
The transformation of a part of the interior space of the European Parliament was conceived to symbolically address the environmental problems increasingly evident in the spaces where we live. To represent a new idea of nature that is inseparable from humans as an integral part of ecological processes, an installation was envisioned for the third floor of the building where nature and artifice are interconnected, imagining a process of change, both cultural and economic, capable of stirring hearts and prompting reflection.
Today, as said by MEP Marco Zullo, 'Nature Calls Nature' becomes a true call to action addressed to institutions:
There has been a strong synergy between my team and GREENARCO from the very beginning. We both want to convey a message, but we also want to physically change the space in a way that can inspire all those who operate within European institutions. We must reacquaint ourselves with being immersed in nature; we must begin to feel its necessity at every moment of the day. For this reason, in this initiative, we want to involve all colleagues and, more generally, everyone working in the European Parliament, regardless of nationality, position, or party. We want to emphasize this: 'Nature Calls Nature' is open to all, and anyone who wishes to join or propose advancements within the same framework is welcome.
